The product represents an enormous technical breakthrough for thin client manufacturers, and is set to benefit its enterprise users with new possibilities in flexibility, mobility and low cost deployment. Organisations can now benefit from the increased security and cost – effectiveness of thin client technology together with the flexibility offered by wireless connectivity.

“The nature of thin client computing means that each terminal only demands around 20Kbps of bandwidth to operate normally versus the 200Kbps requirement of a PC. This means that up to 10 times as many thin client users than PC users can be supported using the 54Mbps 802.11g WLAN protocol,” explained Frank Noon, VXL’s VP of Sales. “With such a large amount of available bandwidth, enterprises deploying WLAN-embedded thin client technology can avoid expensive and troublesome Cat5 cabling rollouts and realise a greater level of user portability.”

The Itona TC68xx Series is available in a variety of operating systems – Gio Linux, Microsoft Windows CE and Microsoft Windows XP Embedded. It connects easily to a wide range of servers and networks via integrated 54Mbps wireless LAN, 56K/V.92 modem or 10/100 Ethernet. The Itona also has an extensive range of ports (x4 USB, x2 PS/2, audio, headphone, 10/100Ethernet, wireless LAN, VGA out and 32-bit graphics display. RAM can be upgraded to 1GB and Flash memory to 1GB. Every Itona comes with VXL’s latest remote management software, XL manage Workgroup Edition.
